IN OUR COMMUNITIES
We are not your ordinary supermarket; we're a supermarket in the hospitality business. Above-and-beyond service is our goal and this includes service to our communities as well. Busch's offers a Scrip program to local non-profits and contributes to local schools and organizations. We work closely with Food Gatherers and Holy Cross Children's Services. We have also taken steps to cut waste and promote earth-friendly policies where possible. Scroll for more details on these efforts.

Perhaps you've seen their trucks on the roads of Washtenaw County (they're the ones with the big orange carrot on the side). These trucks are out making their rounds, collecting rescued food and then distributing it to more 150 community programs. Busch's is very proud to be a part of their route–in 2007, Busch's contributed 77,602 pounds of food from our Washtenaw Co. stores! We're also a Big Rutabaga sponsor of Grillin', their annual summer fund raising celebration. Then in December, we get to host Rockin' for the Hungry, their single largest food drive of the year. In 2007, together with Food Gatherers and 107 one, we raised a whopping 214 tons of food! Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great success!

Where Families Begin Again.
Holy Cross Children's Services is an outreach program providing services to youth and families in crisis. HCCS provides a community-oriented living and working environment and seeks to be an effective advocate on issues which affect children and families. They provide a variety of in-home, community-based, and residential programs which incorporate peer influence, individual attention, family involvement, formal education and staff team work. Busch's supports HCCS in their goal of changing lives for the better. Our Wine Tasting Events, held 4 times a year, provide financial support to Holy Cross Children's Services.

Cardboard Recycling
Bringing in groceries to stock our shelves leaves us with a lot of empty cardboard boxes. In cooperation with our Spartan wholesaler, we recycle as much of this as possible. Last year we were able to recycle 5,112 bales. That's about 3,322,800 pounds, or 1,661 tons, of recycled cardboard. That's a lot of cardboard.
Why we don't have day-olds
Ever looked through our Busch's Bakery baked goods for day-olds, only to come up empty-handed? That's because we donate all our homemade day-olds to local food banks. At some of our stores we're also able to donate short-dated meat and dairy items as well. This allows these items to get into the hands of community groups who can turn them into meals for those in need of a little help right now.

BUSCH'S KIDS CLUB
We want Busch's to be fun for our younger guests too! That's why we came up with the Kids Club. Our bimonthly newsletter keeps you in the loop on all the fun events we've got going on in the store; events like cake decorating on special holidays and our annual Halloween Fun Day. Its also got contests and trivia and recipes you can make and puzzles and more! Don't miss out on the fun, sign up and become a Kids Club member today!
HAVE YOU MET GINGER?
Ginger is our great, big cookie mascot who absolutely adores kids (she's really just a big kid herself). You'll see her around our stores during big events and sometimes she even goes out with us to community events too (Ginger loves a good parade!). You just never know where she'll turn up next!

PAPER VS. PLASTIC
Not sure where you stand in the whole "Paper vs. Plastic" war? Take a hint from the granola crowd and buy one of our reusable bags. They're only 99¢ each, so you can afford to get enough to tote all your groceries. Just toss them in your car and bring them in whenever you go shopping (not just food shopping either, we take ours with us everywhere). These bags are an easy way to be a just a little more friendly to the earth.
We will credit your purchase 5¢ every time you use your Eco-bag bag or bring back a paper bag to re-use.
